Abstract

This handout tells what to do to prevent a high blood sugar emergency, which can result in diabetic coma (going unconscious). It explains the 2 conditions that can cause these emergencies: diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and hyperglycemic hyperosmolar syndrome (HHS).
