Abstract

This handout explains how to prepare and what to expect when scheduled for an ASD/PFO closure at University of Washington Medical Center. It defines a PFO (patent foramen ovale) and an ASD (atrial septal defect), and describes the catheter procedure used for treatment. Sections cover getting ready, what to bring to the hospital, and what happens at the hospital and after discharge.
