Abstract

This handout gives tips and information about following a low-sodium meal plan. It explains how sodium is listed on nutrition labels and gives definitions for different claims, such as "sodium free," "low sodium," and "no salt added." It also gives tips for eating out and includes a table showing which foods are OK to eat, and which ones to avoid. This information is especially helpful for patients with heart conditions or heart failure.
