Abstract

This one-page handout is a table showing the different antibiotics recommended by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons for patients who have total joint replacement surgery. This handout can be given directly to a patient's health care provider before having a procedure that may bring bacteria into their bloodstream. Procedures listed include dental, ophthalmic (eyes), orthopaedic, vascular, esophageal, gastroduodenal, biliary tract, colorectal, head and neck, obstetric, gynecological, and genitourinary.
